Shambhala Day 2016 – Year of the Fire Monkey

We have much to celebrate!

Council 2016100  Mile Shambhala celebrates the New Year of the Fire Monkey with a new Council and a new governance model of the Three Pillars of Shambhala.  Please congratulate our new Council.  Holding the Government Pillar are Group Co-Coordinators Diane Wilson (2nd from right) and Rose McGill (far left). Diane’s role will be to handle administrative and economic duties, and Rose will focus on membership. Dennis Bowen (in the middle) holds the Pillar of Protection.  Bonnie Winter (2nd from left) with assistance from Mark Waldron (far right) holds the Pillar of Practice and Education.  Mark is also the group’s Webmaster.

Shambhala Day is our 8th Anniversary as a Shambhala Meditation Group. The group itself is much older than that, having formed in the early 1990’s as a group calling itself the 100 Mile Dharma Society.  In 1995, members of the group made a trip to the Vancouver Shambhala Centre seeking a teacher willing to make the long journey into the backwoods of the Cariboo to teach at a weekend retreat.  Brian Callahan bravely chose to make the journey.  It was most auspicious for us and the beginning of a love affair between the 100 Mile House Group and our wonderful teachers Brian and Margaret Callahan.

At 20+ years old, the group has seen members come and go, but today we still have in our midst one of the original members:  Mark Waldron.  Mark has many stories to tell. Stay tuned!

  1. There are many humorous stories. Who new? Humor indeed plays an important role in our meditation journey… in our practice.
